What is Botox and Fillers?

Botox is the purified form of botulinum toxin obtained from bacteria. Although it has a deadly effect when applied in high amounts, it has been used safely for years in the removal of wrinkles in very small doses.

When Botox is injected, it works by blocking the nerve signals that run the muscles. When nerve signals are interrupted, the muscle becomes temporarily paralyzed. If the selected muscles remain immobile, the wrinkles will soften, decrease or even disappear.

Trade names Allergan and Dysport are FDA-approved products.

Botox is only effective on wrinkles caused by muscle movements. These are wrinkles formed by facial muscles, which we usually call mimic muscles.

It is most common in the upper face region. Horizontal forehead lines, wrinkles called crow’s feet, which occur when the eyebrows are frowned and the eyelids are tightly closed, are the most frequently treated areas.

Botox is not effective in static wrinkles caused by the loss and sagging of the skin and subcutaneous tissues.

The effect of Botox is not permanent, it must be repeated at regular intervals. This effect lasts for 4-6 months on average.

Botox application in the early period in dynamic wrinkles caused by facial mimic muscles is also effective in preventing long and permanent deformations.

Anesthetic cream is applied before the application. It is a painless procedure that is done with an extremely fine needle. You may feel a slight burning sensation caused by the Botox toxin.

Alcohol should not be consumed within 24 hours before and after the application, blood thinners such as aspirin, ibuprofen etc. herbal teas (ginko biloba, vitamin e, ginseng) should be avoided.

The effect of Botox starts 3 days after the application and fully settles within 15 days.

FILLING

Fillers are gel-like substances injected under the skin to remove wrinkles, soften them, add volume or create the facial contour aesthetically. It is applied to eliminate the signs of aging and to remove deep grooves and wrinkles that cause shadows on the face. It can be done after the age of 30 to remove wrinkles.

How do fillers change the image of my face?

  • Skin wrinkles caused by aging around the nose and mouth,
  • volume loss caused by the loss of adipose tissues in the temple and cheek area with age,
  • lip volume,
  • the collapse of the lower lip in the lower part of the chin,
  • If the tip of the chin is behind, it corrects the profile here.

Why are fillings made?

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a molecule normally found in our skin structure. It makes our skin retain water, making it look toned and lively.

HA fillers have a soft gel consistency. The effect of the filler is between 6-12 months. Over time, it is absorbed and destroyed by the body.

It is the most frequently used molecule in filling application due to its reliability.

There are also components with different chemical content that have a longer residence time in the body. The frequency of use is low due to side effects problems and inability to dissolve in the body.

What type of filling do I need?

Filling selection is made according to the need according to the anatomy of the facial region. Is the product to be injected subcutaneously or on the bone? Since the filling materials are in soft and hard density, the ones to be applied to the custody and the ones to be used on the lips will be different. The doctor should plan this according to the patient’s aesthetic needs.

How is the implementation process planned?

Pre-application evaluation:

A medical history of the person is taken. Does he have any allergies? The drugs he uses, especially those with blood thinning effects, are questioned? It is learned whether the application has been made before and whether there is a problem. Blood thinners should be discontinued at least 2 weeks before. If there is herpes on the lip, the application is delayed. The infected area with acne should be avoided. Dental treatments and especially around the mouth applications should not be equated at the same time.

APPLICATION

The application area is cleaned, anesthetic cream is applied for sensitive areas (such as lips), or there is an anesthetic substance in the material to be filled.

There may be edema, swelling, slight bruising at the application site. These soon disappear within days. You can return to daily activities immediately. It may be necessary to stay away from heavy sports and exercise for a short time.

How long does the effect of the fillings last?

HA fillers have a permanent effect between 6-18 months. This period is slightly shorter in lip fillings.

Synthetic fillers stay for a long time and are not absorbed. Insolubles should be surgically removed when there is a problem. This is their biggest disadvantage.

What should I pay attention to after filling?

Aspirin, blood thinners, etc. should not be taken both before and after filling.

Sunscreen can be used

Alcohol should not be taken.

Make-up skin care should not be applied on the day of filling.

Do not lie face down for 4 hours

On the day of the filling procedure, strenuous exercises should be avoided.

Since there is a problem in terms of infection, the pool should not be entered for at least 3 days.
